Just got this, Merry Christmas!

For unto us a child is born,
unto us a Son is given
and the government shall be upon His shoulder
and His name shall be called
The Mighty God,
The Everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace!
~Isaiah 9:6~

Candle light is beautiful, intriguing and often call for attentiveness
Young and old enjoy candle lighting
Twice or thrice a year
The children in our church have the privilege to “play” with candles

Seriously… for the longest time
I could never grasp the meaning of Advent…, not until this year
Since t’is the season to observe Advent again
Thought I’ll share briefly what I’ve learned on the significance of it

@Church Year on Advent Sundays

Advent is observed 4 Sundays prior to Christmas
It is a time of anticipating and getting ready for Christmas
It is observed through the lighting of candles
Traditionally symbolizes the Hope, Love, Joy, Peace & Christ Candle

The first candle symbolizes the Candle of HOPE
Just as the Old Testament prophets pointing people to the promised Savior
Who is the Hope of Glory in the seemingly hopeless world and life
We light this Candle of Hope to anticipate the Second Coming of Christ

The 2nd candle is the Candle of LOVE
It reminds us of God’s supreme and perfect love
For God so loved the world…
Human love is limited but God’s love is boundless through eternity

The 3rd candle symbolizes the Candle of JOY
Joy to the world the Lord has come
Jesus gives us everlasting joy in the midst of our sufferings
Happiness flatuates but God’s joy is constant

The 4th candle is the Candle of PEACE
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”

The White Candle in the center is the Christ Candle
Christ the holy and sinless One is the One who has cleansed us from sins
When we confess our sins He is faithful and just and will forgive us all our sins
This candle is lighted on Christmas Day to celebrate Christ’s birthday
and to declare that Jesus is the Light of the world!

The following is a prayer on peace by one of our pastors…
“Lord, as we light this candle symbolizing PEACE, we are aware that there are probably many amongst us whose lives are far from being peace-filled. So we pray now for those whose Christmas this year come with ‘mixed feelings’ or ‘sad feelings’ that are difficult to name; we pray peace into those lives.

We pray that Your strong sense of presence to abide amongst those of us who are feeling the loneliest at Christmas time. We pray Your peace into families who may be going through family conflicts. And in facing the days ahead, whether it be the last few remaining parties or conflicting demands of family and friends,  we pray for Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard our hearts and minds.

We pray for Your peace to all those that are being challenged with terrible financial burdens, especially at a time of the year when we are most pressured to buy things which we cannot afford.

We pray for peace and Your comfort over those that are going through this Christmas with loved ones that are sick. In this world of brokenness and imperfection, we continue to cling to Your hope, Your love, Your joy, and Your peace.

Abba Father, You did not shun our world and its poverty, conflict, and brokenness. You embraced it. So, right where we are… right where we are feeling most distant and lost… right where we are feeling least “religious” and “ready”,  come into our hearts to be our Savior, our Peace, in these challenging days.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.”

Sand dollar tells all…

She is so blurred…
I wonder why for the longest time she never recognizes me…
I knew her, a beach-comber and seashells lover
But whenever she saw me at the beach
she would just pass me by
was it because i was broken and unattractive…

Sobbed, prayed, hope one day I would get her attention
so she can realize what a treasure I am…
*waves pounding ragingly at the shore*

One time her friends wanted to buy her a gift,
a photo album to be exact
While they came to our section
I called out “pick me, pick me” and they heard my cry 😛
She received the album, thrilled, not because of me in the front cover;
But because of the serene sea to sky blue color on the cover 😦

Another time I noticed her at a craft store
browsing through some collectable boxes
I think she unconsciously have some sentiment towards me
Of all the attractive boxes there, she picked ME, hurray!
Ouch…, she picked it not because of me 😦
but because of the printing of all my seashell friends ;p

Since she is so blurred
I need a strategy to get her full attetion!

Oh… heard she would be vacationing along the Oregon coast
I decided not to show up at the beach
as I didn’t want to compete with my seashells camaraderie

Knew she loves looking at postcards
I decided to sneak into the tourism center
with my picture & my portfolio up on a postcard
She came by and immediately noticed me
She grinned and picked the card
and wondered what’s with this portfolio of mine aka the legend stuff lol

Huh, so she decided to do some research to prove my worth!

Words from Sand dollar’s newfound lover 😛

Sandcastle I constructed
Sandy beaches I always crave
Sand dollar friend I must call ;p

Hello! What’s with this sand dollar legend?
Quick, let’s find a book on this legend
Friend rushed, thrilled, found one, from the States

Brought along some sand dollars
Friend said lots in Tofino, finders keepers!
What an ador.na.ment! (Adorable ornament)

On to the Legend, we must prove
Yesterday was the day!
Friend and I with anticipation yet apprehension…
did what must be done…

Guiding star — checked!

Elaine's finger pointing to "Guiding Star"

Christmas flower, Poinsettia— checked!

Easter Lily— checked!

"Lily Petals"

Really? 5 Doves of Peace?

Checked... really!

*This is the sand dollar we “smashed”…to prove the existence of these 5 doves we painstakingly cracked open this poor creature; our hearts cracked with the ornament, aww… we’re such softy :P)

Now that facts are clear
to children we must tell
the amazing legend of the sand dollar
of long ago!

My Sand dollar friend ^

This buddy above was the one who picked the sand dollars for me from Tofino. She said when sand dollars are alive, they are usually purple in color or blackish and fuzzy but when death they turn white, smooth and hard.

A year later 🙂

See what I got at  Copalis beach in Olympic National Park.

Allured by Lighthouse…

Yaquina Head Lighthouse Newport, Oregon @2009

Tell me that you’re not intrigued by a lighthouse…
be it a building structure, or a song, a poem or an inspiring story
but nothing beats the sentiment written by people we know.

Here’s one which I received as a birthday gift in 1999 from a friend.

by Lynne
@Sunrise Galleries

A huge rock by the beach invited me to rest, I gladly accepted the invitation.
As I sat down, I looked towards the horizon.
The skies were turning crimson red and purple – what an awesome sight!
As I watched this transformation, I began reflecting upon the events
Which have transpired over the past few years.
I thanked God for being the Lighthouse of my life,
If it were not for the Lighthouse, I wondered where this “ship” would be.

The lighthouse that stands on the rock
is the mariner’s security; the seaman’s protection;
Likewise, God is the refuge of my life.
Even when storms in life assail me, I will not fear;
Amidst the darkest night, Amidst the raging sea,
He will cast His beacon of light,
God is my Protector, my Guide, so in Him I will confide.
I know I can depend on His strength and might.
Even when shoals of life threaten to damage this “ship”, I will not be daunted.
He will warn me of danger, and I will heed His words, for He will keep me safe.

I looked towards the horizon and allowed the sun to warm my face,
As I enter into the next millenium, I am reminded of the loving Son;
The Living Son of God who is the true Light of the World!
I felt the glow in my heart… the warmth of His love;
My spirit wanted to soar with the birds of the sky!

He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life
My helper through the daily toil, pain and strife;
I know He will always be there… never forsaking, ever caring and loving.
I look forward to the days ahead with its promises…
promises of God’s love, joy and peace, and most of all, His faithfulness.

I pray that I will also be a little “lighthouse” on this earth
That many will find the way… that the lost may be found!

Beacon of light

Eye… window of the soul

Solitude @San Juan, Puerto Rico

Got irritating and itchy eyes this morning
rubbed them recklessly
sore, teary, felt liked there’s a speck of dust in the eye
miserable… couldn’t function
handicapped, distressed
irritating eyes, unstoppable tears
scared, wept
everyone showed concerned and gave various remedies

a friend booked me to see an eye doctor
doctor checked and said
it’s just superficial scratch
no worry
won’t get blind

remedy given… use tear gel, stop rubbing eyes!

Pain in the eye; no pain no gain
now understand what God meant
by not looking at the speck of dust
in others’ eyes
for all is in pain
and all need His grace
Lesson learned today
to build up and not to tear down

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:3-5

Gloria, in excelsis Deo

In Latin means Glory to God in the highest

“Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.
Glo….ria, in excelsis Deo!

I am quite fond of them
particularly these angel figurines
from Susan Lordi’s Willow Tree angels craving

Here’s my first collection.

Thank You

It’s a Thank You Angel
I bought it a few years ago
on my birthday
as a thank you to God
to my dad and my mom
for giving me life, and the lives of my siblings, nephews and nieces, and grandnephews and nieces!
