Autumn Leaves

Ahh… last day of September.

Leaves are slowly changing colors…

and I can’t wait for some trees to transform into this fiery red color.

Even more so I am anticipating the transformation in the Garden of Eden being restored as described in Revelation 22:1-4

 “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb  down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.  No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and His servants will serve Him. They will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.  There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light.   And they will reign for ever and ever.”

At the Gazing station
we are to pick an object of our choice
then sit
make our body silent
breathe slowly
gaze at the object
and listen for God.

A friend gave me a “gigantic candy”
and i decided to put gazing into practice
i sat
made my body silent
breathe slowly
and gazed at the present
my hands were fidgeting for i couldn’t wait to open the surprise

oh wow, it’s a cozy wrap… in time for the chilling weather

but opps, i forgot the call to “listen for God”

Today I decided to do Gazing right
I brought along this blanket on a road trip
It was a wind-swept day
so i wrapped myself in this cozy blanket
i stood still
made my body silent
breathe slowly
“gazed” at the blanket “in” my mind
and “listened for God”…

suddenly i realized that this is no ordinary blanket ~~ it’s a blanket of COMPASSION ~~ calling me to be more compassionate towards self and others

This COMPASSION blanket also reminded me of the late Dr. Florence On who was a personal friend/aunty/mentor/a passionate and compassionate missionary doctor.  I am always moved by her love for compassion which was printed in her funeral bulletin.

“I learned humbleness and forgiveness of self and others along my life’s journey toward self acceptance and self understanding, and i found a comfortable identity… I thank God for sending my way so many special friends, mentors of different races and nationalities who helped me along the difficult path of finding myself. Ultimately the most important thing is to become what God created us to be, persons who will serve and help bring Christ’s justice, love and hope, to others whom we encounter” ~ Florence On ~

Through mindfully gazing at the cozy blanket
reflecting on Aunty Florence’s journal entry
listening attentively for God’s voice
I’ve decided to practice compassion more intentionally from now on.

Ah…, the art of Gazing!

Autumn Rain

Today is the first autumn rain i encountered this year

I like the misty effect of autumn rain

it’s very alluring…

“Autumn Rain” is also recorded in Psalm 84
on God’s kindness to minister to the thirsty and the weary

5 Blessed are those whose strength is in You,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.

6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools.

7 They go from strength to strength,
till each appears before God in Zion.

Fearfully and wonderfully made…

Ecclesiastes 3

1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die…,

On my birthday, I usually meditate Psalm 139 to remind me of who I am…

And usually on this day, I would call my mother up and ask if she remembered this date and what’d happened xx years ago.

She would usually reply: “I don’t know…”

Then I would remind her that on such and such a date, she gave birth to me.

She would chuckle and say oh, she had too many children to remember everyone’s birthday.

Indeed, God has blessed my parents with many offsprings.

The last count I had there are 50 plus members among our siblings, their children and my grand nephews and nieces.

Like mother, like daughter…

People back home tended to use the word “photostate” to describe two people who resemble each other.

Some of my mom’s friends whom I was not familiar would often come up to me and asked if I were my mom’s daughter… for they commented that I looked just like my mom… the “photostate” kind!

Mom really rested in peace and went to be with the Lord!

Yeah, first day of September.
I am always looking forward to this month
‘cos it means that my favorite season — Autumn — is in the air!

Some people have coined September as “Stress”tember
due to the many challenges and changes ahead in the new term/season.

Since today is the 1st day of September
and my “stress” level might soon increase,
I decided to go for a day retreat with my friends to one of our favorite places

—  the mountain top at Stawamus Chief,!

It was a breezy and cool day; the hymn ‘How Great Thou Art’  just burst out from within us.

and we really experienced physically  the second stanza of the hymn at that moment —

“When through the woods and forest glades I wander;
I hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur;
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze;
Then sings my soul My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

In times of stress,
weather i am up on the mountain top
or down in the valley

I will learn to pause and let the Great Thou Art refreshes me!
