Fascinating moments

DSC_0129

When travelling on a plane
I always have the dilemma to choose
between aisle seat for its convenient sake
or window seat for its spectacular viewing…

DSC_0085

This time I was granted a window seat
and be fascinated by the moments above the clouds!

Greeted by the gentle and tender morning moon after a long night sleep;
The above moon in the West was reflected by the sun below in the East.

Touch-down after 13 hours of long-haul flight…

Off to the air again after 8 hours of transit…

Gazing out the window, the following thoughts just floated by…

Isaiah 22:12-14

Is not God in the heights of heaven?
And see how lofty are the highest stars!

DSC_0168

Yet you say, “What does God know?
Does He judge through such darkness?

DSC_0165

Thick clouds veil Him, so He does not see us
as He goes about in the vaulted heaven?

Isaiah 55:8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Psalm 16:9
In his heart a man plans his course,
but the LORD determines his steps.

Yup, my plan for a fascinating and festive CNY celebration is visible!

Can’t wait to hear the blasting of fire-cracker and perhaps some lion dances!

Above the clouds

P1070269

No, I am not up in the air yet…

but this bird’s eye view scene of downtown high-rise
floating on the cloud sure looks like
I was way way up there ;p

I remember last time before I took off on a plane,

I went chasing after falling leaves.

This time ’round I ventured into a field of white fluffy shimmering snow!

P1070267

It was a dense foggy day in the valley,

but while driving up the winding mountain pass through the milky mist,

we were greeted with this spectacular sunny view sparkling with crystal snow diamonds!

and I finally experience the Chinese lyric “雲上太陽” – “The Sun Above the Clouds” –

P1070347

“It doesn’t matter whether we dwell on a beautiful and majestic mountain

P1070336

or in the deep valley of the shadows of doubt and darkness

P1070348

but when we lift up our eyes to the sky,

P1070353

we can experience the Lord’s presence with us while

P1070362

He is preparing a way and providing for us.

P1070335

For the Lord, who is the SUN above the clouds, is faithful and unchanging!”

Silence in the air…

DSC_0739

Every so often I like to go to this faraway land

Home…  away from home

to feel the sound of silence

Shepherd of shepherds

IMG_3523

I was given this gift and decided to use it as an object lesson for my talk.

IMG_3438

The children were asked to draw, write or share anything they knew about this cute figurine. (Upon finishing, they would be able to see what’s the huge painting behind me!)

IMG_3518

After their enthusiastic show-and-tell, we revealed to them the large size painting of a pastoral field.

IMG_3503

The image of the painting helped the children to recall excitedly the many bible stories such as:
shepherds are people who take care of sheep eg. Moses, David…
David as a young shepherd;
The Shepherds in the Christmas story (Luke 2);
The Parable of the Lost Sheep (Luke 15);
Jesus the Good Shepherd (John 10);
The Lord is my Shepherd (Psalm 23);

IMG_3484

As we reflected on 2012, we thanked God for being our Good Shepherd and for watching over us over this past year. Each child then had the opportunity to come up and point which sheep represent them… are they so close to the shepherd or straying away from the shepherd.

IMG_3495

As we look forward to 2013, we declared and prayed together that Jesus, the Shepherd of shepherds, is and will shepherd us all the days of our lives.

IMG_3558

Henry Nouwen, a contemplative writer, stated that when we constantly pray the prayer of “The Lord is our Shepherd” we will experience naturally God’s shepherding action in whatever we think, say or do.

Have a blessed 2013!

The Legend of the Candy Cane

IMG_3440

Look at the Candy Cane
What do you see?
Stripes that are red
Like the blood shed for me
White is for my Savior
Who’s sinless and pure!

“J” is for Jesus My Lord, that’s for sure!

Turn it around
And a staff you will see
Jesus my shepherd
Was born for you and me!
