Foggy Fall


October has been foggy month
suffocating the surroundings with its thick and dense mist.
Being enveloped by the misty dew
somehow brings me a sense of thrill and excitement.
This feeling is reminiscent of the feelings I had climbing Mt. Kinabalu
engulfed by ivory clouds on the mountaintop.

On this early morning in the quietness of the dark
driving on the foggy highway
I notice many delightful patches of autumn color —
red, greenish yellow, golden, brown, amber, scarlet,
faintly visible through the fog.

The serene foggy weather also reminds me of stories told in the Old Testament
of when Moses encountered God at Mt. Sinai
of when the Israelites worshipped the Lord
in the tabernacle and in the temple of God
where the place of worship
was covered in a great cloud of the glory of God.

and the power of the foggy weather
demands that drivers slow down.

bumper to bumper and almost at a standstill

As I slowly but steadily approach the city landscape,
with the splendid sunrise dawning faraway in the east
I turn on the Christian music channel
and, as if right on cue,
the song “10,000 Reasons to bless the Lord” by Matt Redman rings out.
My heart skips a beat
for didn’t I just do what the song heralds?
